So to celebrate Mole Day, my Chemistry class did lots of activities a while ago. I've got to say, today is the best day ever. Not only because of Mole Day but...anyway, ha-ha. Let's not talk about the reason why this is the best Monday.
First of, our teacher made us create moles based on your chosen element from the periodic table. I chose Krypton and this is my creation. Meet Krypto Mole!
And then after we have checked out all the moles that my classmates and I created, Mrs. Howell gave us chalks and that we (your lab partner and you) should choose an element again from the periodic table and my lab partner and I decided we should just do Krypton. Of course, inspired by my mole. And after we got our chalk and had it weighed, we went outside and we drew this:
I'm sorry about the poor quality but it's actually taken from my phone and my stupid phone doesn't have a USB cable so I just had to take a picture of it with my Dad's iPod. How stupid am I to not borrow my Dad's iPod and just take a picture of our drawing with it? Just to be clear, the picture actually says: 1 mole of Krypton is 83.798(2) g. And the drawing below is not a mouse. IT IS A MOLE! Crystal labeled it so that people won't mistake it for a mouse.
After this activity, ten minutes before class ended, we learned a song. And the song has something to do with moles...still! The song is about how to solve the empirical formula mole. This is how it goes:
The Empirical Formula Mole Song
Mass over Formula Weight
That's the way you get the mole.
Then divide the largest
by the smallest,
Press the little buttons as you go.
Multiply it,
Multiply it,
Multiply it,
Till it's whole!
It's actually a very catchy song, I must say. I got it stuck in my head up until now.
Well anyway, that's how my Chemistry class celebrated Mole Day! It's super fun. I hope we do something fun and exciting everyday. I hope you enjoy your Mole Day to those people who actually know this day exist!
